Afdis comes back on board, joining Mahatma, Lake Harvest and Cheeseman as co sponsor

A surprise and very welcome announcement was made during the Awards Ceremony in relation to the critical sponsorship required to keep the Zimbabwe on a Plate, Zimbabwe in a Glass Restaurants of the Year Competition going. 

At the end of the awards themselves, Gary Davidson had already announced officially, the new co-sponsors with his company, The Cheeseman, for 2011 – Mahatma Rice and Lake Harvest.  This had been a most welcome recent development, following the years during which The Cheeseman was the sole sponsor, a not inconsiderable financial commitment for a single company!  The costs of running the competition year round, and the awards ceremony itself, are of course inevitably large, and indeed, the ceremony for 2009 was combined with 2010 for just such financial considerations.  This joint ceremony signalled the last to be financed solely by The Cheeseman.

Malcolm Hollingworth of African Distillers attended the Ceremony, as former co-sponsor of the whole competition with The Cheeseman.  During the event itself, Mr Hollingworth affirmed, following a brief preliminary discussion that had recently taken place, that African Distillers was now ready and indeed delighted, to re-join and resume its rightful place as a co-sponsor, bringing to four, the companies putting up the necessary funds to run the competition.  Together with The Standard’s important role in publishing the reviews in its pages weekly, the future of the competition is assured!  The Cheeseman was delighted by this confirmation and commitment, which was accordingly announced by Rosie Mitchell at the function.
