White Horse Inn – Deluxe Family Restaurant of the Year 2010
The White Horse Inn is a very long established family owned and run hotel in the lovely Bvumba District, and many of us living in Zimbabwe, well recall happy times spent there way back in the 1960s and 70s, and ever since as well. This delightful hostelry with its traditional ‘old English’ feel, beautiful view and lovely natural surroundings in the mountains, has through the sheer grit determination of owner David Graham, managed to survive through all the trials and tribulations of the past few decades, and it certainly hasn’t been easy!
The White Horse Inn has done very well in the Zim on a Plate competition ever since it was launched, consistently attaining very high standards and reaching the Finalist List every year since entering. It also boasts a particularly good Wine List and the most amazingly well stocked bar which can offer you just about anything you might dream up, and this, despite the relative isolation of the place, far from any city, and up in the mountains of the Bvumba! Its Wine List has also featured on the Finalist List for Wine List of the Year, every year.
So it was very pleasing indeed to see this well deserving hotel and Restaurant, win the accolade it has been waiting and hoping for, of Deluxe Family Restaurant of the Year. Very sadly, David Graham was not able to attend the ceremony and receive this high praise and recognition for all his hard work over so many years. Gordon Addams, Chairman of the Inns of Zimbabwe, and resident in the Bvumba, was luckily present and able to receive the award on his behalf. The Inns of Zimbabwe’s Inn on Rupurara is also a regular feature on the list of Awards Finalists, in the Deluxe Category, 2009 and 2010 being no exception, and Gordon, a previous Personality of the Year, was there to represent the group.
